The biggest gift we can give ourselves is pure and complete acceptance of self. 

We want to feel confident  and validated just as we are. There is a lot of talk these days about the authentic self and the importance of its well defined existence and genuine expression in order to live a full and happy life and feel a sense of meaningfulness and belonging. When we pause to consider exactly what the authentic self is, it blooms from the soil of the valued (and recognized as valuable by the individual) self. The valued self is what resides beneath the authentic self. We need to know who we are at our core and feel darn good about the person we find there. We need to believe that our worthiness resides in simply existing in this world. And from this place we can solve problems and succeed in all aspects of our personal and professional relationships.
